*cues Britney* OOPS, I, did it again!

Wow.

Maybe I should just pretend that I've been here for the last month and everything is normal? Yes, you like that idea? So do I!

I've had a strange month, full of ups and downs, but now I feel like I've finally come through it all like a trooper. My assignments are well underway and I can see the light bursting towards me in a frenzy! I can't quite believe that my second year at university has almost come to an end... Here's hoping that the summer will take me somewhere interesting!

Speaking of assignments, I HATE it when major corporations take what seems like an age to respond to an email. You see, I'm writing two feature articles for one of my assignments, and we have to get original quotations from the people that we choose to get into contact with. Maybe going straight to the big boys wasn't the best idea but hey - I'm a young and aspiring journalist, if I don't throw myself in at the deep end, who will? ;)

In other news, OH. MY. GOSH.

Darren Hayes is doing ANOTHER New Year's Eve show but this time, it's in Manchester... WHERE MY FRIEND GOES TO UNIVERSITY! The tickets go on sale this week and I am SO excited. It may deny me of any monetary funds for a few weeks, but my gosh will it be worth it! He's also been signed by Mercury Records in Australia, part of the world's largest record company, which is great news for him! I hope that he will finally get the recognition he deserves!

I think that's me for today. I promise I won't be away for as long next time!

Moondance? Yes please!

"Well, it's a marvellous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
'Neath the cover of October skies

And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I'm trying to please to the calling
Of your heart strings that play soft and low

And all the night's magic seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight seems to shine in your blush
Can I just have one more moondance with you, my love?
Can I just make some more romance with you, my love?"

Well? Can I? :P

Excuse the little bit of Van Morrison there, I simply love that song! It's so passionate, I can't help but think about being seduced whilst having it playing in the background...! ;)

Moving on... SWIFTLY! Amongst all the articles, magazines and documentaries that I'm having to create for my final assessments of the year, I'm actually feeling pretty liberated. I'm hosting a 70s dinner party at my house on Friday as part of our magazine project... Here's hoping that the food will be alright! :P I'll keep you updated throughout the process of our magazine creation. I'm so excited about getting started! :D

We've already come up with a name for it, which is... "Clocking Off"! Basically, our magazine is going to be a weekend supplement for an existing newspaper. We chose to base the magazine on periods throughout time, too, so the name is fitting indeed! ;)

That's all we've got so far, but this magazine will soon be rocketing to the sky along with all of our ambitious yet achievable ideas! I can't wait! :D

Until next time my darlings! <3 x

Bill Gates needs to sort it out. NOW.

Today, I'm back on my high horse of grammatical errors.

In the past two weeks, I have been faced with something horrible. Something... despicable. Something which is, by ALL means, totally unnacceptable. Perhaps worst of all is that I have now been faced with this scenario TWICE.

I'm talking about Microsoft Word: Mac.

I do not know if this has occured on any Windows versions of the program, but at my university, we have lots of "delightful" Apple Macintosh computers - all of which have classic Microsoft programs installed on them, including Word.

Sorry; I'm stalling. Let's cut to the chase.

MICROSOFT WORD: MAC CANNOT DISTINGUISH BETWEEN 'THEIR', 'THEY'RE' AND 'THERE'.

I know; I know. It's totally shocking, isn't it? A corporation as wealthy as Microsoft cannot be bothered to ensure that their programs understand such a basic form of grammar. I guess it's time for me to present the evidence to you. So, without further ado:

Perhaps even more sickening is that it tries to correct "their" again, but this time, with "THEY'RE" instead!

"...that THEY'RE whole fleet"? How does the phrase "that THEY ARE whole fleet" make any sense?! ARGH! Maybe it's Microsoft's way of paying back Mac users for their disloyalty. I can see Mr Gates giggling like a schoolgirl in his microchip throne now: "Haha, let's make a program riddled with grammatical errors so terrible that they have a mental breakdown and hurl their Macs from a 100ft building! Then, they'll HAVE to buy a Microsoft product to replace it because Apple products are so darn expensive! It's the perfect plan!"

...Phew. I guess that's my rant over for now.

Do you have a sneaky little secret?

I do.

I love... Scarves!

Sorry if you were expecting some ground breaking, Earth shattering story to leap into your face just then. Oh, you weren't...? Never mind.

Whether you like to admit it or not, everyone has a certain thing that they like to collect; be it shoes, bags, trading cards or stamps. For me, it's scarves. The scarf has been a staple fashion accessory in my wardrobe for the past two years or so now, and it's something you will rarely see me without. Sometimes, it's a good thing that I live in a relatively cold country!

I may not be an obsessive scarf pervert, but I DO have enough to match every outfit that I own. I counted fifteen in my bedroom earlier on, and I know there are more hiding away in my wardrobe! Grey, gold, green, pink, polkadot, leopard print... you name it!

Would you like to see a part of my collection?

Success!

This morning, I feel very accomplished.

I'm sitting here sipping my morning cup of tea rather gently, whilst reflecting on last night.

To cut a long story short, I had a good evening.

Do you remember last week when I had a bit of a disagreement with my friend? We got the opportunity to actually speak to each other about it last night and it's really lifted a weight. Things have definitely gone back to normal now, which I'm pretty thankful for! :)

In other news, James Paul Gallimore is a gimp. He's also a complete legend. Thanks again for your advice last week!

In other OTHER news, I've got a great weekend ahead of me - I'm spending it in London with my beloved! Nothing like a belated birthday present eh? I'm pretty excited, I can't remember the last time we spent quality time together for longer than 24 hours! :D

Happy happy Lauren.

P.S. I STILL have "The Reflex" stuck in my head. However, it has been joined rather gracefully by this delightful song. Enjoy! ;)

The reflex, flefleflefleFLEX!

I love 80s music.

Today's choice is "The Reflex" by Duran Duran. With its catchy synth-pop instrumentals and nonsensical lyrics, it's definitely an 80s classic. Sometimes I wish I was an 80s child...

That's a complete lie. ALL THE TIME I wish I was an 80s child!

The music, the ridiculous hair and make-up, the neon trends where everyone wore it, not just 14 year old girls wearing silly little frilly tutus over the top of a pair of leggings... Oh, what I'd give to just to hop in a time machine and go back for a day, maybe even a week, just to see what life was like for young people without mobile phones and instant music downloads!

Don't get me wrong, I love technology - but it's a sad sight to see children under 10 with mobile phones, iPods, internet access, fully-fledged 3D video games and films. I'd say it was an underlying jealousy because I never had such luxuries as a child, but when I think about it, I was perfectly happy with what I had.

My parents weren't the richest of people when my sister and I were kids. We never got the latest technology until several years after it was released because they couldn't afford it. All my friends were at home at Christmas playing with their brand new Nintendo 64s and PS1s, whilst my sister and I would sit playing Super Mario Allstars our old Super Nintendo.

You know what though? I wouldn't change my childhood for the world.

I would sit for hours infront of my little box TV, playing with 16-bit sprites contained in massive grey cartridges. The magic they contained was amazing. All those other kids would deem their games unplayable because they would scratch their discs to buggery within about 5 minutes. My clunky, "old" Super Nintendo? It stuck by me like a trooper - the games never broke and there were never any irritating "LOADING!" screens that actually took up more of your time than the actual gameplay.

I didn't just sit infront of a TV for my whole childhood, though. My sister and I were avid Barbie doll fans. For hours and hours, we would sit together and invent the most complex storylines for the dolls - from setting up their own clothes stores to taking on their own element (represented by the colours they wore) and hijacking an evil man's plans to destroy the world. The evil man was usually a pervert too, strangely...

Even though we would always ask for it for Christmas every year, we didn't need the expensive, lavish Barbie penthouse to give our dolls a home. Instead, we would pull out every video tape that we had and would make a huge flatplan house, complete with bunk beds and a garage.

As we got older, we did end up getting our PS1 and Nintendo 64. Yet, every so often, we would return to playing our old Super Nintendo again. It never failed us. There's something so satisfying about hearing the Mario "you've lost a life" jingle playing out to your opponent. It's almost as if the game is laughing at your expense!

I'm glad that I didn't get everything that I wanted when I was a kid. It's taught me to appreciate the things that you can afford and also, understand the true value of money - if you really want something, you can work your hardest for it and eventually, you will get it. I respect my parents for bringing us up in the way that they did.

This is why I get so angry when I see fellow students being spoonfed money for their weekly shopping and for their alcoholic habits. My parents don't give me weekly financial support, and I don't expect them to - as far as I'm concerned, I'm 20 years old, studying away from home was MY choice and I'm more than old enough to work and earn for myself. I don't get a bursary from Student Finance either - because my parents' household income is over 40,000 a year (their jobs got better over the years, if you were wondering), I have no hope in Hell of getting any support because "my parents earn enough to give me their money". Pfft. No they don't.

It's totally outrageous if you ask me. The people who work hard get no help, yet the ones who sit around on their arses all day get the full non-repayable bursary.

I digress - it's a story for another time.
